[ on the morning of the 23rd, you receive a package, wrapped neatly in glossy white paper and gold ribbon, with a photo attached to it. It’s a picture of Teddy, your resident Prime Minister, giving puppy dog eyes at the camera and holding up a sign that reads “I ♥ HEROES”. the message on the back of the photo says: ]
Dear Date Masamune, I am happy to see that you made it back from Gammon, safe and sound. War is truly a terrible thing, and I can only imagine the horrors you had to go through. I thank you for your service, from the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of Blanc’s citizens. We are truly grateful.
Commander Pinta has informed me of your valiant efforts in the recent battle to protect the Kingdom of Gammon. Gammon is an important ally of the Republic of Blanc, and though a battle is never an enjoyable ordeal, I do hope you enjoyed the sights and celebrations our sister nation has to offer.
But not too much! Gammon is a great place, but Blanc missed you, Masamune! I missed you. I thought it might be nice to send you a little gift, which I hope you’ll enjoy.
Warmest regards, Thierry Toussant
[ Unwrap the box and you will find:
A six coins necklace, though one unlike Masamune has ever seen before.
If your eyes happen to wander over to your window, you notice you’re not alone. Wait a minute, is that… Teddy peeking in, watching eagerly as you unwrap your gift? Was it just your imagination? Whether it is or not, he’s already gone! ]
No one ever mentioned how weird the Prime Minister is. [Yup, that's what she's opening with.]
It's...Pacifica. I didn't see you out on the wall when the fighting started, so I. I wanted to see if you made it out okay. [Okay, this is a little too nice for her, so she adjusts her tone to something haughtier.]
Who's going to give me lessons, if you got yourself hurt? [A pause, and some hesitance bleeds into her voice again.] You are still giving me lessons, right?
I guess they don't like giving that information out to the public but don't think it's hiding anything since we find out, anyway. I wonder if they chased him around the city all day because he climbed out his office window or something to deliver gifts... [ apparently he has no issues with this topic of conversation.
Her next topic, though... despite her attempt to sound less nice, it's really endearing to Masamune to have someone check up on him. Granted, a lot of people did help him when they happened to cross paths with him (even that guy he had such a bad first encounter with...) but someone going out of their way "just to make sure" is cute (not to mention the sign of a good person).
Even if he believed it was totally for her concern of her lessons only. ]
I'd be off to a pretty bad start as a teacher if I got myself injured and out of commission first battle, yeah? So, of course I'm giving you lessons—and it's not my style to make my students think less of me by being seen as so easy to beat before we even start.
[ Meaning... she doesn't have to worry. he's not going anywhere anytime soon. He's looking out for her. ]
[Pacifica snickers, the image a little too funny to not laugh at.] If anything, at least we know he's healthy. There's no way anyone could run around like that all day if they're not.
Anyway, I wouldn't have expected anything less from someone who's teaching me. [Is it just your imagination, or is her voice a touch warmer than it was before?] When do you want to start?
When would like to? My schedule is busy as hell with doing absolutely nothing.
[ when you go from paperwork day after day and training and armying and everything else, being merely a soldier suddenly seems a little boring in terms of keeping one occupied here. ]
[ Funny, his carrier doesn't alert him that he had a package, yet waiting for him on his bed is a gift box wrapped in black paper and tied with a gold ribbon. Inside, he will find a bronze eyepatch. While the patterning is subtle, upon close inspection, it almost looks like the patch is scaled like a dragon.
Along with the gift is a letter, written in somewhat familiar handwriting. ]
Masamune,
I've never been good at conveying myself in person, so I thought it best to write to you. I wanted to thank you, for visiting me as well as your advice. While we come from very different walks of life, I was told that we were all drawn together for a reason, and that as long as we remember that bond that we share, we will never truly be alone.
Until recently, I wondered what my place was in this world. In my home, Demacia, my role in society was chosen for me, and with it came certain duties and obligations. As a woman from a noble house tasked with protecting the crown, there was no place for questions or companionship. I believed that this was the only way to live, as a woman bound by her duty, whose greatest achievements, greatest glory could only be achieved by defending my people and my prince.
I can say without a shadow of doubt that I was wrong to think this way, and I want to thank you, Masamune Date, for helping me see the error in my ways. There is more to life than simply fighting; far, far more.
Please take this gift as even a small token of thanks, both for your gift elephant (I apologize, I'm still not quite sure what an elephant is), and for your words that day. While it is not much, I hope that it will serve you well.

Your carrier lovingly hacks up a small package that would fit in your hand, as well as a handwritten letter with some sort of armored animal drawn in the corner...
Dear Friend,
We may not know each other very well yet, or maybe at all! I've only seen one battle here, but the amount of bravery and care that people have shown for one another both on and off of the battlefield lets me know I'm part of something special. People have lost their homes and loved ones, and while we can't bring those back, I know that there are people here to believe in. And I'm very lucky to get to fight alongside them.
It's not much, but I hope you enjoy a few snacks that I've made! A full tummy always makes me feel better. Maybe we can share a snack together in person sometimes soon.
Sincerely,
Orihime Inoue & Kou-kun 井上織姫とコウくん
The package is wrapped in pink and blue paper. When unwrapped, your character will find three cute little animal-themed pastries! (You're welcome to decide which three.) They have a sweet bread outer layer and some curious fillings...
Pink Bunny is hopping and happy to see you! It is filled with a sweet carrot cream. Purrfect Kitty is very pleased and ready to be eaten! It is filled with some sort of chopped meat, reminiscent of a BBQ Pork bun. Sleeping Froggy knows it's delicious. It's filled with a MYSTERY FLAVOR...which is either a sour green apple or...seaweed? Friendly Puppy isn't supposed to have chocolate, but it's filled with it anyway. Don't tell anyone! Cute Chicky is filled with a egg-flavored cream. Yeah, that one actually isn't surprising, although maybe a little morbid when you think about it.
[This package you will receive doesn't come by Carrier. Rather, Vietnam has given strict instructions that this will be treated like every large package, and will be delivered like so. After all, it is one! A letter, and a little box. Wonder what it is? And when do you receive it? Any time between the September 6th to the 15th. And in the case of the newer Heroes, it comes sometime on the 8th or after (hint hint).]
COMRADE,
No matter our opinions of our situation or this place, we are all the same, brought here from different places. Still, we all have each other. Whatever fate has in store, we will chose. I suppose what cane be important here now are the bonds we create.
To celebrate that let me share a custom. In my world, sometime in the Autumn, is the Mid-Autumn Festival, known to me as Tết Trung Thu. It is said that during this time, the moon will be so round and will shine its brightest. To appreciate the moon, one can ask for blessings from the gods. You can give thanks for the harvest or harmonious unions. You can pray for prosperity and good fortune. But also, it is a time to spend together.
Each year will it would be celebrated on a different day. In the year I left, 2016, it should fall on September 15th. I believe the equivalent date here is Sylvant 15th. So please take this chance to relax. I have included one free pass to a two night stay at the inn I manage, Dragon's Flight and Phoenix Dance, located on Gisela. On these islands, you will be able to see the sky, so very close. I have also included a mooncake of lotus filling. As per custom, you share your mooncake with family and friends to signify unity. I hope it is to your tastes.
We may not have known each other for very long, but I've found that it's easy to relax around you and speak my mind. Though, maybe that comes across as me just being a chatter box; in that case, consider this as much an apology as a way to convey my gratitude. And a reward for not dying, since the anko threat can only motivate you so much.
[ On the seventh, Masamune will find a note waiting for him on his desk. ]
Masamune,
Sometimes it is best to share a gift with those who are near and dear to us. For that reason, I am inviting you to a special gathering, on the 10th of this month, at Seven in the Evening, in the Hall of Glory Commons. I will be bringing a mooncake, as they are best shared with friends and family. I could think of no one better to share this treat with.
There is but one catch: You must invite someone else to attend as well. As said, these gifts are best shared with friends, new and old. Should you wish to bring anything, teas and other snacks are highly encouraged. I will leave that up to your judgment.
Sincerely,
Lux Crownguard
Dear Masamune, In the spirit of letter writing month, and inspired by nice letters I received from others, I thought this would be a good time to write and express my gratitude for your friendship.
We may not have known each other for very long, and perhaps we got off on a strange foot, but you have quickly proven yourself a worthy ally. More than that-- I would not hesitate to call you a friend. It’s obvious that you know your way around a battlefield… you moved like a natural out there, which makes me wonder what sort of cause you fought for.
I will admit that I was embarrassed in front of you. I don’t usually let myself get so reckless with my mana, but you did not shame or reprimand me, and for that, I thank you, too. Through your mana, I got a glimpse of what sort of man you might be… your exterior and demeanor can be tranquil, and calm, but you’ve got a lot of passion within you, don’t you? I also get the feeling that you’re a man of great mental fortitude and empathy for the people that fight by your side.
Not to mention that was surprised to find out that we may be… kin? Something like that, I suppose! Before coming to Enprise, I had never heard of dragons except for the context of the four dragons, whose spirits are supposedly within me and my dragon brothers. So, it was comforting to know that we aren’t the only ones who might have been born into such… strange circumstances. I would like to know more about your past, if you’re willing to share it.
I would be happy to fly, fight alongside, or simply spend time with you, my fellow dragon.
I'm sending you this letter just out of obligation. I guess I'm thankful for what you've done for me. Don't complain too much or it will surpass those good intentions. In that case, I suppose this also works as a warning.
[ Shinano still has some of his tantou scouting skills, finding Masa's room at Capablanca's hotel is easy, even when it's rather late to go about. Of course he can't get in as easily as he could back in Caissa, it's still a hotel with magical keycards or keys that give customers the privacy they need. So to get the door open, he'll knock, then uses his carrier to make a quick request. As in, Raijuu will make Masamune get the door because it's Shinano at the other end, it likes the kid who pets him nicely. ]
Sorry if you were sleeping, Masamune-san. Could I... stay over for the night?
[ Appropriately for the time of day (the middle of the night) and Capablanca's mild coastal weather, Shinano's in a shirt and shorts for sleepwear. Fuwa meanwhile is nestled in the pillow he brought along. But he's also got quite a few bandages strewn about wherever skin's visible, there's one even on his cheek. Kid's had a rough day, and the Merilorn Forest can be thanked for that. ]
[ Well, Masamune's carrier is more than willing to beat him up until he gets the door, at which point the dragon of oshuu looks more like a puffed up and disheveled cat that's been tumbling its sleep. He blinks when he sees the person behind the door after opening it before stepping back to let Shinano in, yawning as he attempts a greeting. ]
Yeah, sure, kid. You okay?
[ he may be half asleep but he can tell the other had it rough—bandages are identifiable to a soldier in any state of consciousness. ]
[ Regrets, Shinano has 'em seeing Masamune look like a tousled cat. His little carrier even stares at her paws like "What have I done." Still Shinano would normally nod at that sort of question, because usually he's very okay. Not this time; he also tries to explain what's wrong quickly before Masamune dozes off on him. ]
You know that weird forest that was a little creepy and got really creepy... I guess it haunts me in my sleep.
[ He buries his face into the pillow, embarrassed. Yes, even spirits of centuries-old swords get freaked out under certain circumstances. He just wanted to get more apples for himself, Hakuno, and maybe a quick buck? Anyway... yeah, sleep is hard. ]
[ Creepy forest... ah, right. He isn't sure how creepy it was before recently, but recently it was very much so. He's also had more than one run-in with it already, to make things worse.
He crawls back to his pillow without much effort flopping on his back on the bed with another yawn. ]
Yeah, the place is kind of messed up. Did you see something or just a feeling or...?
[A voice Masamune will find quite familiar creeps quietly into his inbox. So quietly, in fact, it seems almost suspicious. There's a considerable pause between both messages sent, as if the individual on the other end had contemplated bothering with the second part at all.]
Are you well? I've seen neither hide nor hair of you since that grand charade in the forest. Do respond when you are able.
[ ... what a strange person Gilgamesh is. He listens to the messages several hours later and sends a reply right after before he forgets. He's quiet, as well, and his voice lacks very little much of anything beyond words—it can't even really be said that he sounds generally apathetic. ]
...Ha, yeah... [ he's fine. Ish. ] Was I supposed to be somewhere that I wasn't? [ That's the only thing he can think of in regards to why he's being contacted like this. ]
I'm pretty sure escorting was as close to the front lines of a trap like that one as anyone could get. Besides, as much as I would love to have gone head to head with zombies, I was actually needed elsewhere. [ Which is super lame. And who would have ever thought!? Not him, anyway. ] Maybe you just overlooked me, eh?
